The Top 10 War Themed Metal Songs

War is a horrible thing – but it surrounds us. It’s on television, in the movies, on the streets, and yes, even in our music, and there’s no other style of music that has gravitated to the topic more than metal. It makes sense. The drums sound  like bombs bursting in air and tanks rolling down the road. Screaming guitars could easily be mistaken for the sound of  free flying missiles. As the war escalates in the Middle East, I as well as many others am watching the television to see what’s going on.  My job as a writer I feel is to take in things that are happening around me, process those things, and spit it back out at you in one way or another. So, here is my attempt to take what is happening and try to turn it into something positive. Music is a powerful thing and the lyrics of these songs all tell the same tale: War is a bloody and violent. So turn your TV down for a while and check out the top 10 war themed metal songs. PEACE ON EARTH.

Black Sabbath – War Pigs

“Now in darkness, world stops turning,
as you hear the bodies burning.
No more war pigs of the power,
hand of god has struck the hour.
Day of judgement, god is calling,
on their knees the war pigs crawling.
Begging mercy for their sins,
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings.”

Megadeth – Peace Sells

“Can you put a price on peace?”

Iron Maiden – The Trooper

“And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body’s numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan.”

Rage Against the Machine – Bulls on Parade

“Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal.”

Slayer – Chemical Warfare

“Frantic minds are terrified
Life lies in a grave
Silent death rides high above
On the wings of revelation
Multi death from chemicals
Arrogance has won
Annihilation must be swift
Destroy without destruction”

Motorhead – Dogs of War

“Stand or fall, live or die
Strong and true to the end
Fly the flag, let them see
We will never bend the knee.”

Metallica – One

“I Can’t Remember Anything
Can’t Tell If this Is True or Dream
Deep down Inside I Feel to Scream
this Terrible Silence Stops Me
Now That the War Is Through with Me
I’m Waking up I Can Not See
That There’s Not Much Left of Me
Nothing Is Real but Pain Now.”

Alice In Chains – Rooster

“Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere.”

Sepultra – Refuse/Resist

“Chaos A.D.
Disorder unleashed
Starting to burn
Starting to lynch
Silence means death
Stand on your feet
Inner fear
Your worst enemy”

Judas Priest – War

“No man can quell the suffering
The hell and all the grief it brings
Our life is almost over, now there’s nothing more
We feel the pain is everywhere, it comes and roars.”

We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war but the postive affirmation of peace.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
